One of my all time favourite places in London is Columbia Road Flower Market. Situated in the East End, the street is transformed on a Sunday into a flower lover’s paradise with traders lining the street on both sides selling their wares to passers by. We usually take the tube to Old Street station and from there it is about a ten minute walk. It’s well worth a visit as the street is full of scent and colour and I think it’s a lovely idea to transform a street in this way – something I’d like to see happen here in Belfast perhaps.
As well as the flower stalls, Columbia Road is home to lots of interesting, independent shops which also open on Sunday. Two of my personal favourites are the Jesse Chorley & Buddug shop, see below (specialises in embroidery collage and applique, I bought a beautiful wedding album from here) and Vintage Heaven (amazing collection of vintage china with a café to boot).
So, if you are looking for something a little bit different and want to escape the usual tourist hotspots in London, I highly recommend a visit . It’s a lovely way to spend a Sunday – browsing the shops, enjoying a coffee and soaking up the floral fiesta. You might even spot a pearly king or queen when you get there !
