I’ve spent the last hour or so looking through photographs of our trip to New York back in 2013. It’s easy to forget how wonderful a holiday it was but looking at the pictures now I remember how excited and how happy we were to be there. My husband had never been before so it was a whole new adventure to him. For me, it was my second visit but at least this time round I had actually some money to spend and New York is definitely a place where you need some cash !
I’m sure thousands of people have blogged about New York over the years. It is the most vibrant city and everyone will have their own unique perspective on what they love about the Big Apple. For me, I love the vibe. I feel energised when I am there and I feel that anything is possible. I would go back tomorrow if I could afford it !
I don’t claim to know everything about the city and in our week there we only just scratched the surface. So I’m just sharing a few highlights here of what we enjoyed.
- The view from the rooftop bar at our hotel – sipping a cocktail and looking up at this spectacular site was something I will never forget.
2. Walking over Brooklyn bridge on a sunny Saturday afternoon, just glad to be there. Followed by a generous Sunday brunch at the Blue Note Jazz Club , chilling to the live music and then visiting Perry street where Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City lived. Not sure my husband was too impressed with this but I couldn’t resist. Sunday afternoon was spent at the Film Forum in West Houston Street watching a delightful old black and white French comedy.
3. A trip to Tiffany – of course it had to get a mention. I had a perfectly valid reason to visit – my pink leather Tiffany watch needed a new battery and a leather strap. Where else to get it replaced than Tiffany New York? When we discovered the price of a new strap was going to set us back 300 dollars, we quickly decided a new battery at just over 30 dollars would be enough. The staff were wonderful and I felt like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys – sitting in the customer service suite admiring the view to Central Park. Again, an experience I will never forget.
I’m sure it won’t be my last trip to New York but I feel very lucky to have been there twice.
If you are thinking of visiting we stayed at Hotel Metro – perfectly located in Midtown, close to Macys and the Empire State Building. A great base for exploring New York and I enjoyed a very nice refreshing apple martini there on a hot day in September.
If you are into film, please visit Film Forum – a great place for watching independent films and they serve a mean chocolate brownie
We also came across a lovely gift store called Considerosity in the West Village. I loved the name and they do a cute, quirky selection of gifts – something a little bit different. We bought some greeting cards and I treated myself to a handmade bracelet. The customer service was excellent and lots of other people think so too – http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/considerosity-manhattan-3
Finally, when doing research for our trip to New York, I came across this photo blog – nyportraits .It’s one of my favourite blogs as I love the everyday images of New York life. If that doesn’t make you want to visit, I’m not sure what will !
