When my sister in law told me a new coffee shop had opened near to where I live, I got very very excited. That’s unusual perhaps but our neighbourhood does suffer from a lack of good quality coffee shops and something new and interesting was long overdue. Thankfully a lovely gem of a place called Linen and Latte has now opened in Glengormley, just a few miles outside Belfast and when I finished work today I made a point of going there to discover it for myself.
Linen and Latte is a coffee shop and gift shop combined into one – just the sort of place I love to go to. From the moment you step inside, it is clear the owner has made a real effort to create a lovely warm welcoming interior – a look combining industrial salvage with some great vintage furniture. I particularly loved the vintage coat stand as I am looking for one of these for my hallway. The gift shop stocks candles, cushions, ceramics and greeting cards – all a little bit different and many locally made which I really like.
I treated myself to a local brew of Suki tea and a bacon roll while browsing a copy of Elle Decoration and took away a slice of orange polenta cake for my dad’s birthday which he told me he really enjoyed – he didn’t care to share it with me !
All in all, a very pleasant way to spend an hour after work and I think it might become my new Friday afternoon ritual. Not only do I like the place but I admire people who take the plunge and create something new. Hopefully it might inspire more new businesses into the area as it is needed. I wish the owner every success.
