Bon Appetit a Miel et Moi

It was with much anticipation that myself and a good friend set off for Miel et Moi last Friday after work.  Miel et Moi (French for Honey and Me) is Northern Ireland’s first licensed patisserie and cafe bar and every time I drive by it is thronging with people which is always a good sign. In my mind, anywhere that sells exquisite French pastries alongside an extensive drinks menu is on to a good thing !

With its pretty mint green facade and fondant pink parasols,  Miel et Moi stands out like a little gem at the top end of the Lisburn Road, an area popular with shoppers in the south of Belfast city. As the sun was shining that day, we grabbed one of the last remaining tables outside and ordered some food and a bottle of wine.  Clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design – the outside area is covered in artificial grass with ornate cast iron tables and pretty fencing – so a sunny day it is a very nice place to sit, catch up with friends and people watch ! And that is exactly what we did. Our food arrived a little bit later than we would have liked but my goats cheese, leek and sundried tomato quiche was very tasty and devoured in no time at all.

When it came to dessert, we were spoilt for choice. We ventured inside to gaze longingly at the mouthwatering range of pastries on offer – salted caramel eclairs, brownies, maple and pecan tartlettes, strawberry tarts, macarons and much more,  all hand baked daily using locally sourced ingredients. To be honest, it was difficult to choose but we settled on sharing a delicious frangipane cake between the two of us – which showed a great deal of restraint on my part as I could happily have eaten the whole cake myself !

All in all, it was a very pleasant way to spend a sunny afternoon in town. As I’ve said, a lot of thought and creativity has gone into to offering something a little bit different and clearly something that is proving very popular. I would very much like to return and treat mum to a spot of afternoon tea here as I think she would love it.

If you are ever in the city, it is well worth a visit. Just be aware, as it is so rarely sunny here for long, when the sun does shine everyone makes a beeline for places where they can sit outside and enjoy a few rays !  You can find out more at Miel et Moi’s website www.mieletmoi.com
