Sometimes life can throw you a few curveballs, a few things you weren’t quite expecting, challenges one might say…and yet, being a ‘glass half full’ kind of gal, I always try to look on the bright side and find happiness in the small things.
Simple things, really, like …..
1.Spending a lovely hour or so in the kitchen baking a Danish dream cake ( a new recipe for me) and being pleasantly surprised and quite chuffed that it turned out really well. A slightly different method to what I usually follow when making cakes, but still quite simple to make with a beautifully light sponge and deliciously moreish coconut topping. I got the recipe from a free download courtesy of The Simple Things magazine and they had taken it from a book called The Scandi Kitchen by Bronte Aurell which you can find here
2. The John Lewis Christmas advert – charming, funny, heart warming, it’s everything a Christmas ad should be. It just melts my heart every time I watch it. You can watch it on YouTube here
3. Getting one of my favourite magazines through the post and settling down for a good read with tea in my favourite Emma Bridgewater mug and a Cadbury’s Flake. Bliss !
The magazine is called 91 Magazine and is an independent lifestyle magazine, containing features on interiors, shopping, styling for the home and designer makers. Full of beautiful photographs it is a lovely source of inspiration, if like me you are a little tired of the standard woman’s magazine offering and looking for something that more closely reflects your interests and aspirations. For the autumn/winter 2016 issue, for those who ordered early enough, it came with a sample of Bluebird Earl Grey tea which I am looking forward to tasting very soon.
The Emma Bridgewater mug features a beautiful illustration of the façade of Liberty London which I got as a Christmas present a few years ago and which is still for sale on the Liberty website here
4. Going to my local coffee/gift shop, chatting to the owner and being told she follows me on Instagram. She remembered my name and that had a blog – that really made my day. The lovely lady in question runs Linen and Latte which I blogged about here and I will hopefully be attending her Mulled Wine and Mince Pies Christmas evening later this week, so some lovely pictures to follow soon
5.Coming home from work to discover hubby had bought me some beautiful snowflake garlands for Christmas. I can’t wait to use them..they will look so pretty.
Sometimes, the small things aren’t really that small after all ..
Hope you are enjoying your week wherever you are 🙂
