Waking up on a Saturday morning to sun streaming through the bedroom window must surely be one of life’s great pleasures. Knowing that a day of glorious weather beckons and that you have the working week behind you, bestows a lovely sense of freedom, a lifting of the spirits. It’s so much easier to get up out of bed and embrace the day (in my case, anyway!).
I haven’t ventured far this weekend, choosing to stay at home, potter about and enjoy this wonderful April sunshine. Isn’t lovely after the long winter months to at last be able to throw open the windows, put the washing out on the line and enjoy some warmth on our faces ? The garden is surging ahead and I’ve been sowing seeds and planting some pretty alpine flowers while the good weather is here. With regular cups of tea, music thanks to our new friend Alexa ( love her !) and a bunch of tulips as little treat pour moi, it’s been a chilled out affair. And as Saturday draws to a close, Boris has retired to the sofa for a nap after his exploits round the garden and I’m sitting down to read ‘The Secret Garden’. This was a Christmas present from hubby and I have been dying to read it for ages. As I hope to be spending lots of time in my little garden, it seems this might just be the perfect time to read it !
The book is published by The Folio Society. I have a few of their books – Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote and Never Let me Go by Kazuo Ishiguoro and they are all beautifully illustrated …books to treasure and read time and again. I’d recommend a visit to their website if books are your thing.
We are off to the cinema on Sunday morning to see Juliette Binoche in the French rom-com Let the Sunshine In – hopefully another chilled out day with maybe coffee afterwards and a walk around the park. If you fancy a feel good movie, I’d also recommend This Beautiful Fantastic, a lovely tale about an eccentric young woman, her ageing, argumentative neighbour and the neglected, unloved garden that divides them in more ways than one.
Whatever your plans, I hope you are enjoying your weekend. Have a lovely Sunday.
ps the candle in the picture is from The Country Candle company (the apple blossom fragrance is perfect for spring !)
We are having April Autumn sunshine at 23C – the washing is out on the line and I was outside repotting my Anthuriums 🙂
