What would Delia do ?

January 20, 2019Categories Self Care6 Comments on What would Delia do ?

A decade ago I ran an online shop. In hindsight, it was a little ahead of its time, selling handmade, locally sourced gifts, the kind you find these days on notonthehighstreet.com.  It was a part time endeavour, which I dedicated my evenings to while working full time during the day.  It was also a labour…

A simpler Christmas

December 18, 2018Categories Sources of Inspiration16 Comments on A simpler Christmas

Is it just me or does time seem to speed up as we hurtle towards the end of the year ? The last six weeks or so seem to have gone by so quickly and Christmas is almost upon us. I'll be honest - I used to love Christmas but in recent years less so,…

A nod to November

December 2, 2018Categories Beauty in Nature8 Comments on A nod to November

Yes, I know November is over, but I thought I'd take a moment to reflect on the month just past before rushing into the whirlwind that is December ! November never seems to get good press and to be honest, it has never been a favourite month of mine, stuck as it is between golden…

A rare thing in Ireland...a clear blue sky. This was one of many lovely views we enjoyed in Carlingford which we visited about two weeks ago. The weather changed for the worse the next day but for one day the sun shone down on us while we explored the town..before heading to the pub for some refreshment ( as you do). More pics on the blog if you fancy a nosy ( link in bio). Happy Sunday all 🙂
Many, many welcomes February fair-maid ! (Tennyson) And happy Friday everyone 🙂
3 years ago on Valentine's weekend, we drove down the motorway to look at some basset hound puppies. We already knew we would bring one home..we just weren't sure which one. I sat down on the floor and within a few mins a little bundle of golden fur sat on my lap. And that was that. He chose me. I wanted to call him Romeo but he came to be known as Boris and we've been inseparable ever since. And they call it puppy love ❤❤
Sometimes...I love winter the most. Happy Weds all ❤
So I was on the beach in Carlingford by myself engrossed in trying to take a picture of the lough and mountains in front of me. I heard an unfamiliar sound. I looked to my left, then to my right and couldn't see anything. The noise came again. I swung round 180 degrees and there he was , this handsome chap. gazing at me from over the high wall. As if to say, 'hello, take my picture instead'....so I did 🙂
I've had Monday off and I've spent it cleaning and decluttering. At first I resented having to clean on a precious day off but I kept going. I took several boxes to the charity shop including loads of unused glasses and cookery books I never found time to cook from. Then, late afternoon the sun streamed through the kitchen, lighting up a lovely clean space and I feel like a weight's been lifted. Time to get the kettle on I think. Happy Monday evening all 🙂
