Reflecting on 2021: A Journey of Grief, Growth, and Gratitude

Reflecting on 2021

On the eve of a new year, I thought I’d write a short blog post reflecting on 2021. It has undoubtedly been a very challenging year for all of us as we continue to navigate our way through this pandemic. On a personal level too, the passing of my beloved mum has brought new challenges and I’ve been struggling with grief for most of the year.

Grief, growth and gratitude

That being said, we are still here. For me, 2021 brought the thing I dreaded most in life but I somehow found the strength to get through it. And although I didn’t travel very far or do anything terribly exciting, I read some great books, had a photograph shortlisted in a competition, grew tulips for the first time and revamped our back garden ready for an abundance of flowers next year. I found solace and comfort being outdoors and developed a new found appreciation for my wider family circle. And from coast to countryside to my own little garden, I witnessed beauty everywhere.

Favourite photos from 2021

The American photographer Harold Feinstein once said ‘ Let your photography be the way in which you discover this world, this life, your own self’. And with that in mind, I thought I’d share a few of my favourite photographs from a year where I discovered a little bit more about myself and found that, despite everything going on in the world, it is still a beautiful place.

And so I’m ending on a positive and optimistic note. Thank you so much for all your lovely comments and messages this year and I wish you all a safe, happy and hopeful New Year.

Thanks for stopping by,

Paula

Reflecting on 2022: A Year of Challenges and Joy

  1. Some really lovely photos, I love the overgrown flowers around the bench, windows and doors. I’ve loved watching you develop your own photography style over the years. Wishing you all the best for 2022. X

  2. You capture the beauty well! I’ve said to my family that life is light and shadows; we walk in both. I’m sorry for the shadows in your past year and hope God blesses you with many light-filled days ahead.

    1. Sarah, thank you so much for your beautiful words. It is very much appreciated. I hope you and yours are keeping well and best wishes for 2022.
