Exploring the Colourful Streets of Ciutadella, Menorca

Sometimes the nicest discoveries are the ones you haven’t planned.

During our time in Menorca, we found ourselves exploring Ciutadella, a beautiful old town on the island’s western coast. I was immediately taken with its colourful buildings, narrow streets and charming little corners, and it wasn’t long before I had my camera out.

Ciutadella is full of character. There are pretty façades in all sorts of colours, interesting doorways, balconies and cobbled streets that seem to invite you to slow down and have a proper look around. Everywhere I turned, there was something else that caught my eye.

Wandering the old streets

One of my favourite things about visiting somewhere new is simply wandering without too much of a plan. I love turning down a little street to see where it leads, noticing the details of the buildings and coming across unexpected views along the way.

Ciutadella was perfect for this. The colours were lovely, the architecture had so much character, and there was plenty to photograph. I found myself drawn to the little details just as much as the wider street scenes.

I particularly loved the combination of colours and textures. Against the bright Mediterranean light, even the simplest details seemed to stand out. These are the sorts of places where I can happily spend ages taking photographs, often returning to the same scene to look at it from a slightly different angle.

A few favourite photographs

Looking back at these photographs, I’m reminded of how much I enjoy exploring somewhere on foot, with no particular agenda beyond seeing what I can find.

It’s often the smaller details that stay with me: a colourful building, an interesting doorway, a quiet cobbled street or a glimpse of somewhere just around the corner. You don’t always need to go looking for anything spectacular. Sometimes it’s enough just to take your time and enjoy what’s in front of you.

Ciutadella was a lovely place to wander, and I’m glad I have these photographs to remind me of our visit.
