A is for Autumn

Autumn is well and truly here. And like many people, it’s my favourite time of year. More so than Christmas, but please don’t tell Santa ! It’s full of rituals and traditions that connect us with nature outdoors while embracing the warmth and cosiness of life indoors. A is for Autumn in my book and always will be.

Autumn outdoors

There is so much to enjoy outdoors in autumn:-

A long walk in the crisp morning air in a favourite park or woodland

Popping on a cosy woolly hat and gloves

Sweeping up piles of golden leaves strewn on the lawn, only to find a fresh pile has descended the following day !

Filling pots and baskets with pansies and violas for a spot of welcome colour

Sowing seeds in the hope they flower next year

Planting tulip and daffodil bulbs in anticipation of glorious colour the following spring

Carving and decorating pumpkins for Halloween

And indoors

As the evenings lengthen and the air starts to chill, autumn encourages us too to retreat indoors and enjoy the warmth of home and welcome ‘hygge’ moments. A few of mine include:-

A welcome cup of hot chocolate (preferably topped with cream!)

Scented tea lights dotted around the fireplace

The smell of something delicious bubbling in the slow cooker for hours

The warmth of a log fire

Snuggling up on the sofa with a blanket and the dog for company

And not forgetting books, lots of books, for cosy afternoons reading while it rains outside

A simple autumn flatlay

Using calendula and lisianthus flowers, I made a simple autumn flatlay. I do enjoy a little bit of floral ‘faffing’ every now and then.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who enjoys autumn. Is it your favourite season too ? Feel free to share your comments below.

In the meantime, thanks for stopping by,

  1. Yes, I’m a big fan of autumn too… And your post captures the mood of the season perfectly! I’ve been enjoying the colours these last few weeks, and it’s been nice to start cooking my favourite soups, stews and pies again. Are the flowers you photographed from your own garden?

    1. No..I have started a flower arranging course so bought the flowers for that. Then I faffed around with the offcuts on the kitchen table to take the photos 😊
