Welcome to the Bubble Dome

August 24, 2017Categories Tales from my Travels12 Comments on Welcome to the Bubble Dome

A few blog posts ago I mentioned that during our time off in July we  had opted for a 'staycation'. We do normally venture further afield but this year, somehow, we decided to stay at home. That didn't mean we had to be boring though and as we have very luckily stayed in most of…

Birch Cottage

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we had the chance to escape to the country a few weeks ago, thankfully on a weekend when the sun shone pretty much the whole time ! I thought I would share some pictures of the beautiful place we stayed in, Birch Cottage, an off grid self catering cottage…

Auf Wiedersehen Berlin

April 10, 2017Categories Tales from my Travels2 Comments on Auf Wiedersehen Berlin

Slightly belatedly,  I thought I would share some details on our final day in Berlin and the sights we took in before flying home to Belfast. We had discovered that the Berlin Wall Memorial was a stone's throw from our hotel in Berlin Mitte and within a five minute walk after breakfast we had arrived there.…

Berlin greys

March 12, 2017Categories Tales from my Travels2 Comments on Berlin greys

According to my Fitbit, I had walked 8 miles on my very first day in Berlin so the following morning I allowed myself a lie-in in our lovely hotel called i31, so called because it is number 31 on Invalidenstrasse, one of the main arterial routes into the city running from east to west ( the…

Berlin calling

March 1, 2017Categories Tales from my Travels10 Comments on Berlin calling

The week before last I finally got to go to Berlin - a trip that was booked immediately after returning from a fabulous holiday in Menorca last September (which I blogged about here and here). Does anyone else do that - book another holiday as soon as they get back from one? I was so full of wanderlust…

Ciutadella

September 22, 2016Categories Tales from my Travels6 Comments on Ciutadella

Ciutadella is a small town on the western coast of Menorca, about a 15 minute bus journey from the resort of Cala en Bosch where we recently stayed on holiday at the beginning of September. To be honest, I had never heard of this place and when you are enjoying a mojito by the pool on…

Seeking the sunset

September 13, 2016Categories Tales from my Travels5 Comments on Seeking the sunset

Having returned home to a chillier, autumnal climate, I am already reminiscing about our recent holiday to Menorca.  And, in particular, a warm, balmy evening spent just sitting by the sea watching the sun slowly set. Turning the sky from a bright golden amber to a soft peachy hue before melting into the horizon. Then walking home…

A rare thing in Ireland...a clear blue sky. This was one of many lovely views we enjoyed in Carlingford which we visited about two weeks ago. The weather changed for the worse the next day but for one day the sun shone down on us while we explored the town..before heading to the pub for some refreshment ( as you do). More pics on the blog if you fancy a nosy ( link in bio). Happy Sunday all 🙂
Many, many welcomes February fair-maid ! (Tennyson) And happy Friday everyone 🙂
3 years ago on Valentine's weekend, we drove down the motorway to look at some basset hound puppies. We already knew we would bring one home..we just weren't sure which one. I sat down on the floor and within a few mins a little bundle of golden fur sat on my lap. And that was that. He chose me. I wanted to call him Romeo but he came to be known as Boris and we've been inseparable ever since. And they call it puppy love ❤❤
Sometimes...I love winter the most. Happy Weds all ❤
So I was on the beach in Carlingford by myself engrossed in trying to take a picture of the lough and mountains in front of me. I heard an unfamiliar sound. I looked to my left, then to my right and couldn't see anything. The noise came again. I swung round 180 degrees and there he was , this handsome chap. gazing at me from over the high wall. As if to say, 'hello, take my picture instead'....so I did 🙂
I've had Monday off and I've spent it cleaning and decluttering. At first I resented having to clean on a precious day off but I kept going. I took several boxes to the charity shop including loads of unused glasses and cookery books I never found time to cook from. Then, late afternoon the sun streamed through the kitchen, lighting up a lovely clean space and I feel like a weight's been lifted. Time to get the kettle on I think. Happy Monday evening all 🙂
