A last glimpse of autumn

A few days ago, I was wandering around one of my favourite places – Antrim Castle Gardens . I like to go there sometimes by myself, just to get some fresh air and wander around, camera in hand.  Now that we have reached late November, I thought I’d visit to get a last glimpse of autumn. It is, like I may have mentioned before, my absolute favourite season of the year.

The dark days of winter will surely arrive soon enough and I was in need of a little autumnal ‘fix’. The gardens themselves will shortly be transformed too into an Enchanted Winter Garden. And Christmas visitors will descend in their thousands to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of this Christmas spectacle. I hope to go and see it myself, lit up by festive lights on a late December evening.

On this visit though, it seemed to me that the gardens were enchanted anyway. Lit up by the late November sunlight, the last of the autumn leaves cascaded in golden drifts above me. It felt rather magical. No throngs of people today. It was just me and the trees and a last glimpse of autumn.

Albert Camus, the French philosopher and author once said – ‘Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower’. I think that perfectly describes this time of year. Leaves really do come into their own in autumn, like a final hoorah before the trees stand bare.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this last glimpse of autumn, at least where I live. Is it still autumn where you are? Feel free to share your comments. I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day,

Paula
